There was once a vampire named Vanitas who was born under a blue moon rather than the usual red one. This is regarded as a bad omen by vampires, and they despised Vanitas and cast him out. He vowed to take revenge upon them, and created a magical book, a grimoire, which is capable of corrupting a vampire's true name, which for them is akin to life itself. The book is still missing today, and Noe Archiviste is searching for it. He comes upon the modern-day Vanitas, and is surprised by the purpose the Grimoire is being put to.

(One episode watched):

If this show had piqued my interest, I'd be asking why a vampire's name is so important, why a human seems to be on a crusade to save vampires, if Vanitas and Noe will really wind up enemies someday, etc, etc. But it didn't; it may be that I was simply very tired when I watched episode one, but my interest fell off abruptly at one point. It may be that the thoroughly impossible act of throwing a precious object up in the air, carrying out an elaborate action, then catching the object before it strikes the ground annoyed me. Neither Vanitas nor Noe struck me as interesting characters and the jokes didn't seem very funny either. I got the feeling that this show was relying on the 'coolness' of vampires to attract viewers rather than solid plot and character development. So, this show failed the 'questions I want answers to' test by leaving me without any after episode one.
