This is about as vanilla as you can get for an anime. Pilot Candidate milks the typical tropes of mecha anime with its focus on an academy of mecha pilots tasked with fending off an alien threat called Victim. Characters are mostly archetypal and don't get much in the way of growth or fleshing out throughout this series. It's also rather infamous for its lack of a proper resolution as there are many elements to its plot and characters left unexplored such as what exactly Victim are, the pasts of several major characters and hints of hidden motives involving those among the academy's staff. Not to mention the threat of Victim is still ongoing by the end of this series. The CG animation used in the rendering of the Victim aliens and mecha might have been okay for its time, but is quite outdated nowadays having a cheap and rough feel with its rendering. There's really no reason to even check out this series if you're expecting anything out of the ordinary and having fleshed-out plot and characters.

This anime, based on the manga by Yukiru Sugisaki-sama, is probably one of the most pathetic wastes of time ever produced (which is a double shame, because the manga is excellent). There is a plot, but it is quickly abandoned and never really extrapolated upon. Characters spend entire episodes just talking and angsting ... while NOTHING gets accomplished. Not to mention that the world's cheapest CG effects are utilized in ways that are nothing short of cringe-worthy. The whole production is like a crash-course in how NOT to make a successful anime.
I will admit it: I never made it to the end of this series. After the fourth episode, I had had enough. NEVER AGAIN. Nothing is more depressing than realizing that you have spent hours of your life on something so dreadful ... hours you will never get back! Don't make the same mistake I did! Stay far, far away from this series!

This series is quite good. The artwork fascinated me. All the characters were very attractive and the background music were sort of like orchesteral music. The story was good. Some bits were quite hilarious whilst one episode actually made me cry a bit. A The 3-D animation in there was very stiff. However, it has only got 12 episodes and so I think they should have a second season for this anime.

This gotta be one of the most awesome space animes ever. Maybe not as good as Martian Succesor Nadesico, but sure as good as Outlaw Star. The plot is simply amazing, one of the best I ever seen, the EX, the mysterious pilot of the Goddes 1, and all the mysteries that are in GOA, Zero's myestrious dreams, all comes together in an amazing mystery that I was dying to now just to find out that the producers found some budget problems, and the whole thing got stopped at Curriculum 12 (the equivalent of an episode). Even so I'll give it a Buy rating, but you might wanted to rent it first. Zero and Kizuna combination has to be one of the greates in the anime world.
