'Pets' are psychics with the ability to get into people's minds and brainwash them into doing things which they ordinarily would not, up to and including committing suicide. They are used by organized crime to cover up evidence of misdeeds. But the ability comes at a cost: the harm does not fall entirely on the person who is being manipulated.

(Two episodes watched):

I have come to think of the Geno Studio (whose anime begin with a scene of five guys peeling out on motorcycles) as a maker of edgy, avant-garde, original anime which, unfortunately, miss more often than they hit. But I couldn't help being modestly intrigued by Pet, with the premise of psychics getting into people's heads and screwing with them, including tricking them into killing themselves. A boy named Satoru, who usually stares listlessly at a TV and drools, is recruited to become a Pet after another one recognizes that this seemingly retarded boy actually has a valuable skill. Years later he serves a counterfeiting ring. But it wasn't clear who would be the hero of this story--would Satoru have second thoughts about what he's doing, or would the protagonist be a minor messenger/bar owner who has seen something incriminating that he shouldn't have? Actually, after two episodes it looks like the protagonists will be two other men, who have a loose association with the criminals but don't like them and are going to go into the business of screwing with people's minds on their own. Whether they'll be doing it to help people (they have saved one man's life) or just to make money (or both) remained unclear. I was somewhat confused by the brainwashing process in which a victim flashes back and forth between reality and multiple delusions. It's hard to keep track of which is which and what effect it is having on the characters. The business of 'peaks' and 'valleys' (pleasant and unpleasant memories?) was hard to grasp as well. In particular what can a Pet do (and not do) to a person? There's plenty of vaguely disturbing crime and brutality, but I don't sense any good guy(s) who will fight for justice instead. I started watching episode three but was soon turned off by the seediness and violence. Perhaps we can chalk this one up as another anime which tried something new but ultimately didn't discover anything worthwhile.
