Kei and Yuri are top agents for the World Welfare and Works Association (3WA). When they get sent to a trouble spot, the bad guys aren't the only ones in trouble! Still, as the 3WA's super computer is quick to point out, the "Lovely Angels" always get their man, and the collateral damage that results is never really their fault.

[TV series, 1985, 24 episodes, 21 min. Final two episodes released as OVA's in 1986/1987. Series is based on a series of light novels by TAKACHIHO Haruka-sensei (first novel to be released by Dark Horse in late June 2007). ]

Not too much to really explain with Dirty Pair. The whole series is nearly episodic in its plots with Yuri and Kei tending to different missions, mixing between comical and serious moments. The episodes give just enough plot to explain any mission that the Lovely Angels tackle. The comedy for the franchise comes from Yuri and Kei's frequent oogling over guys and their looks during missions (with a good amount of fan service coming from the attire of the gals), their occasional yammering among themselves and the inadvertent collateral damage that results from their actions on jobs. Yet despite seeming pretty shallow and destructive with their actions, both gals are shown to be fairly competent in their work as they gather information, act on the fly during heated moments in battles and can work as a competent team when push comes to shove. Pretty much, the series is rather simple in what it delivers with plot and comedy with the presentation being quite outdated with its animation style and very 80s soundtrack, which may turn off fans of modern anime offerings or looking for anything more elaborate with plots and/ or comedy. Personally, I found the show's style of comedy to be hit or miss as I did laugh at some of the more absurd plots and destructive antics involving the Lovely Angels, but not all the time. Fans of older anime are quite likely to get the most enjoyment out of this series.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:374#628]
(One episode watched):

I had procrastinated about watching this oldie, assuming it would be crude in comparison to today's shows. But I was pleasantly surprised by the first episode, which turned out to be funnier than I had remembered the Dirty Pair OVAs being--indeed, funnier than more than a few of the new shows running nowadays. The audio and video were not surprisingly rather mediocre, but the banter between Kei and Yuri was fun with more than a few memorable lines. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

My favorite line (so far): "You should believe in your pet"

This terrible review is based off my watching the series in Japanese (without knowing Japanese) in 1990. I'm currently re-watching the series as I am able. Just finished episode 18.

This TV series came out in 1985 after being spun off from Crusher Joe. Kei and Yuri are special members of the WWWA (3WA) which is a type of police force in the future. The pair are known for their skimpy work uniforms and wake of destruction they leave everywhere they go. The series was slated for 26 episodes though I believe only 24 were acutally shown. The other two were released on video as specials.

Dirty Pair OAV is what I saw first, so it was surprising seeing Yuri in yellow rather than the white/silver that they wear in the later series. It's kind of funny and there's always plenty of action.

Note: Original Dirty Pair OAV and Dirty Pair Flash are all that have been released by ADV thus far. I don't know if the TV series will be released anytime soon.

This is so cute, It is like charlies angels anime style (They even have a pose in the opening) The characters all look very original and the animation kinda reminds me of Bubblegum Crisis.

Note: Review written after seeing 6 episodes. This is a fun little series, not mentally challenging but nice when you want to kick back and enjoy some lighthearted action. Think of it as the anime version of Charlie's Angels. Each episode stands more or less on its own (so far, anyway), so you could really jump in just about anywhere. Kei and Yuri are both capable characters even though their outfits are fanservicey, and the plots are always at least amusing. There's even a Halloween episode! The artwork looks pretty dated, but it's still clean and serviceable.
