While her friends think about what sort of careers to pursue, Nozomu Tanaka has only one ambition: to be an 'amazing high school girl' with a really good looking boyfriend. It would have helped if she hadn't enrolled in an all-girls school. She schemes and daydreams about how to make her ambition come true, while her more serious friends Shiori Saginomiya and Akane Kikuchi tolerate her and keep her from diverging too much from the beaten path.

This is largely another typical slice-of-life comedy featuring a number of high school students who each have specific character types they adhere to and the humor coming off their quirks and chemistry with one another. Like many others of its ilk, I felt largely indifferent to the humor offered up with it and your mileage is likely to vary on your reception to it.

Here's a fairly amusing show about a semi-ditsy girl with a happy-go-lucky attitude towards life. There doesn't seem to be much of an ongoing plot, instead Nozomu just drifts through life pursuing one silly idea after another. For instance. she assigns nicknames to people (who reply in kind), and dreams up scenarios in which potential boyfriends might get the impression that she's an 'interesting woman'. Tanaka has some personality, as evidenced when she does things like blurt out "You're a serious person, aren't you!?". In other words, she sometimes does surprising things, and surprise is an essential element of comedy. I got a little impatient for this first episode to be over before it was (and sometimes this occurred during other episodes as well), but for the most part it was fun and I decided to continue watching. The show isn't entirely about Tanaka (or 'baka' as her classmates have nicknamed her); in episode two her wannabe mangaka friend is the subject a good deal of the time, as she digs up her first attempt at comic drawing back when she was 9 years old. Indeed, sometimes characters other than the main three are the subject of an episode, like the morbid-minded shut-in girl who returns to school after a lengthy absence or the girl who pretends to be a heroine from a sword-and-sorcery video game. If the jokes were less funny than they are, the lack of a plot would be a problem; but the show was funny enough to me to be worth watching for the 4-koma sort of jokes alone. The jokes aren't uproariously funny, and perhaps a person needs to have an idea of what life is like for Japanese teenagers in order to completely 'get' them. I wish the humor had been a little stronger, because the basic premise works fairly well and the show could have been a good deal more fun if only we got a few more laughs out of it. Again, there isn't much of a plot, just little slice-of-life anecdotes about the various characters, so the humor is about all there is to watch for. Once in a while there's a LOL joke, but most are just the sort that make you smile. Still, I recall being pleased at the way episode eight (for example) 'flowed' in a fun way, from one curious twist to another, even if I wasn't left rolling on the floor with laughter. Over time you get to know these girls and to like them.
