A female college student named Aoi inherits the ability to see spirits from her late grandfather. Aoi prides herself on her cooking, and one day she's feeding some agricultural spirits when suddenly a god and the master of the "Tenshinya" (Heavenly Inn) appears and takes Aoi away. He says that due to her grandfather's debts, she must become his bride. Aoi hates this idea and instead declares that she will pay back her grandfather's debt by working at the Tenshinya.

I suppose if there's a comparable anime you could compare this to in a similar premise, it would be Natsume Yuujinchou. However unlike Natsume, Kakuriyo is more focused on ongoing story developments involving Aoi connecting with the ayakashi that maintain operations of the Tenshin-ya and coming to learn more of her grandfather's past ties to them. Each of the ayakashi that Aoi befriends get enough fleshing out for audiences to connect with their problems and there is a decent amount of world building that explores the norms of the alternate realm that the ayakashi live in. The show has a few issues such as some unresolved plot and character elements due to its light novel source material still ongoing as of this review. But still, Kakuriyo still gave me good vibes of remembering Natsume's Book of Friends while offering enough differences with its premise to offer its own unique identity. A definite recommendation if you enjoyed the many seasons of Natsume.
