Ash (Satoshi) and Pikachu came to know each other. Pikachu was not cooperative toward Ash, but Ash only wanted to be friends with Pikachu. On the day they set out from Pallet Town (Masara Town), both of them saw a Ho-oh flying and made a vow to someday go and meet it.

Made to commemorate the Pokemon anime franchise's then 20th anniversary, I Choose You offers a really loose remake of Ash's beginnings as a Pokemon trainer. By loose, I mean that memorable moments and characters from the original anime have their circumstances changed and only make cameo appearances respectively. While the first 10 minutes of the anime accurately depict Ash's first encounter with Pikachu and the two coming to bond after evading a flock of Spearow from the original series, the film mostly then follows its own original continuity with Ash gaining two new companions who are basically very similar to Misty and Brock in personality and traits to a large degree, as well as the film's plot being your run-of-the-mill "chosen one" plot connected to Ash witnessing legendary bird Ho-Oh. The new characters in question don't have much to show in dimension beyond existing as replacements for Brock and Misty, while the movie's plot feels no different from other fictional titles that milk the "chosen one" story formula to the umpteenth degree. The only praise I can give the series is its rather impressive animation with clean visuals and fluid movement that is nice to see in action, especially during any battle sequences between Pokemon. Beyond that, I Choose You is a rather underwhelming way to commemorate the Pokemon anniversary's two-decade long history with its loose depiction of events from Ash's start as a Pokemon trainer.
