(One episode watched):

At the beginning of episode one, a strange black cloud rolls over Akihabara, causing many (but not all) people there to disappear. Was this some sort of metaphor? Because the next we know life is pretty much normal, except that we are in the post-otaku era. The girls who work at the Rabbit Hole Cafe (it has far more waitresses than customers) are apparently about the last remaining fans of manga. They go about trying to track down all seven volumes of a manga that a customer requested. The show was very dull, not at all funny and not very cute or interesting either. There were many shallow characters instead of any deep ones; we start off with 3 girls, then 3 more are introduced, later yet another group of 3. Then, around 20 minutes into the episode, what had previously been a very boring and tedious show seems to shift into overdrive. All of a sudden a flood of information, information which seems almost completely unrelated to the direction the plot had been heading up until now, pours over us. A talking rabbit, computer hacking (apparently a 'virus' is to blame for the loss of memory about anime and manga--I had thought that people had just lost interest), clockwork gears, some sort of Star Trek-like transporter technology--WTF? Is this all taking place within virtual reality? Are these girls really girls at all, or some sort of avatars or androids? The only thing I can be certain of is that I don't give a damn whether they succeed in their quest to restore memories, since they are so two-dimensional and the plot is so alternately boring and bewildering. The ED sequence and preview suggests that they'll be swinging bladed weapons before long, but I cannot believe that a truly interesting plot will ever come together. I think I have seen enough.
