One of the more recent popular titles to come out of the harem genre, Quintessential Quintuplets main gimmick involves our male lead's interactions with quintuplet sisters whom he has to tutor. While the characters do have their archetypes they follow, the series does show itself to have a bit more meat with its major characters with showing the interactions between Futaro and the Nakano sisters that offer their amusing moments as Futaro tries to find means to motivate and focus the girls on their studies. Each also have their gradual developments they undergo as they interact with one another, with a few of the sisters even coming to develop feelings for him as their relationships improve. The series also has a couple moments hinting in the future that Futaro comes to marry one of the sisters, though the series doesn't dabble into whom he chooses among them at this point with the manga source material still ongoing. I'm not sure if I would want to dabble further into the series considering the harem genre isn't typically my cup of tea nowadays. But with what Quintessential Quintuplets having more to offer up than the norm for many titles of its genre, I wouldn't say I regretted watching through its first season.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3634#628]
(One episode watched):

Highly unlikely coincidences are the backbone of comedy anime premises. Whenever a guy briefly meets a strange girl then tells himself that surely he'll never see her again, you just know that tomorrow she'll be a new transfer student in his class. Here Futaro, a smart but poor student, meets five new girls in the space of two days--and not only is the first one a transfer student in his class, but all five of them are twins (quintuplets). A fantastic coincidence x 5. Other than that, however, it seemed to me that there was little unusual or noteworthy about this show. I think I laughed once at a visual joke which showed a funny look on a character's face, and otherwise was impatient for the episode to hurry up and end. The girls have good sized breasts but none of them (except maybe the one rambunctiously friendly one) struck me as a particularly likeable person. I'm betting this show is counting on fan service rather than intriguing romance to attract viewers. One unusual touch is that apparently Futaro will wind up marrying the primary sister, Itsuki--seldom do anime romances go any farther than a kiss. How do the two go from almost hating each other to getting hitched? That might be interesting, except that the quality of episode one leaves me with little confidence that it really will be. I don't think I'm taking much of a risk by passing on Gotoubun no Hanayome.
