Subaru Mikazuki is a fairly popular author of mystery novels who reads profusely himself. He's eccentric and would rather be reading alone than interacting with other people. He needs an idea for his next work, and thinks that a stray kitten, 'Haru', that he finds one day might provide it.

My Roommate is a Cat is a slice-of-life series mostly focused on an introverted young author who takes in a stray cat and learns to gradually get over his social anxieties with social interactions. A unique story element with this series is that events within it are explored both from Subaru and his cat, Haru's, perspectives as each show how each think of their situations and even explore the personal issues both face with Subaru dealing with both his social problems and the recent loss of his parents, while Haru settles into life having a human owner and copes with the loss of her younger siblings during an attack by crows. The series does believably depict the behavior and quirks of a cat through Haru's perspective with her hunter instincts and trying to understand her new bond with Subaru, as well as Subaru learning to gradually get over his social problems. The show's gradual approach to exploring the growth of Haru and Subaru in both their individual characters and their bond makes their developments genuine and can allow both introverts and cat-lovers to connect with this anime's premise. A definite title for slice-of-life fans to check out if they have a love for cats or are coping with social anxiety of some sort.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3632#628]
(One episode watched):

This struck me as a sort of cute tale of a reclusive guy and a suspicious, street-wise cat (at one point Subaru notices 'murderous waves' eminating from Haru's eyes) getting together. But the chemistry between the two wasn't good enough for me to be confident that a moving, cathartic story was going to be told, and the jokes weren't laugh-out-loud funny either. Not many things, either good or bad, seemed worth writing down in my notes as I watched episode one. This seems like a pretty average show to me--nothing terribly wrong with it but nothing outstandingly right with it either. I declined to watch the rest.
