Somehow, Yuuto Suoh has been transfered to an alternate reality of swords and sorcery. His one link with his Japanese homeland is his smartphone, which enables him to communicate with his sister. Since he has yet to find a way to return home, he uses the smartphone to give himself an advantage as he fights for fame and influence in the power struggles of this strange land.

(One episode watched):

This show quickly reminded me of another fairly recent anime with a similar premise--i.e, guy takes a smartphone to a fantasy realm and uses it to good effect. This show definitely didn't remind me of any particularly good anime, however. The character designs are simple and it soon became clear that the plot would be as well. There is plentiful Viking terminology--even though the premise doesn't seem to have much to do with Norse mythology--but otherwise not much detail. I was briefly intrigued by the revelation that Yuuto can still communicate with his sister (I assume) Mitsuki in present-day Japan via his smartphone. But there was no elaboration and judging from everything else I doubt it will be very interesting if it ever comes about. Likewise how a Japanese teenager has clawed his way to a position of power and influence in this world. So little background was provided that I wondered if this might be the second season of an anime whose first season I had missed (or forgotten). Characters seem exceedingly shallow--like Yuuto's two 'uncles', who are obviously not to be trusted since they always frown, even when ostensibly congratulating him on a victory. Not surprisingly, Yuuto finds himself in a too-good-to-be-true situation where a number of hot girls both protect him and no doubt would gladly have sex with him at a moment's notice. Basically, this was a take-it-or-leave-it premise that made little attempt to be clever or sophisticated and was obviously relying mainly on fanservice to attract viewers. The little bit at the very, very end of the episode (who has the biggest boobs?) summed things up nicely. I quickly became bored with this show and was impatient for the episode to end. There seems to be an unwritten rule in anime that if you just include some fanservice, some swordplay, and some nonsensical but fancy terminology, a fair number of viewers will watch.
