Junji Ito Collection
(One episode watched):
I was somewhat underwhelmed by this show's first episode. A boy named Soichi apparently has some sort of voodoo-like ability to hurt other people with curses and dolls. But the show didn't seem to have much psychological 'depth'; Soichi seemed like more of an asshole than a supernatural threat. He was too 2D for me to hate him all that much, or to care a whole lot how things would work out. Something was missing. Also, there was no sign that we'd ever get any sort of explanation of how he had acquired his occult powers. And, his story seems to be over. The brief bit about a girl who is somehow being transformed into a lifeless doll was more disturbing and intriguing; is that a preview of episode two, or is it also finished already? It seems like an attempt is being made to shock us with various weird stuff but without much coherent storytelling. Horror doesn't intrigue me much, so I find mediocre horror to be especially annoying, and my first impression is that the Ito Junji Collection would fall into that category.
