(Rent-/ Watch+) This fourth Tenchi OVA appears to be set at different points of the OVA continuity between the third OVA series and before War on Geminar, mainly focused on the wedding between Tenchi's father Nobuyuki and his bride Rea. There is actually some plot relevance for this OVA's existence as it serves to provide more back story on Rea and reveals why Kenshi was sent to Geminar for the Geminar OVA. It also brings Tenchi Muyo back to the more mundane storytelling that the series used for its less action-heavy episodes that may not sit will for those who enjoyed the space action of the first two OVA series. While there are seemingly many new characters introduced for this series, they have actually appeared in novels and doujin created at various points by Tenchi writer Masaki Kajishima that mostly never left Japan. This would make things quite daunting for Tenchi fans unfamiliar with this material due to not having it to draw upon to connect with these characters finally making an animated appearance. However, having so many characters to focus on detracts from the main story of Rea's wedding and exploring her origins since the whole experience is mostly treated as casual fare by Tenchi and those among the Juraian Royal family members. While this OVA does provide some much-needed focus on Rea and learning more about the events leading up to War on Geminar, it isn't exactly the most poignant chapter of the Tenchi Muyo franchise given what past installments in the franchise have dabbled into. It would be nice if any of the doujin or novels, especially the Shin Tenchi Muyo novels, could finally get some sort of animated adaptation so it could help fill in more of the holes that anime fans of the Tenchi franchise may not have the answers to.
