Sore ga Seiyū!
What Shirobako (TV) is for exploring the challenges of anime production, Seiyu's Life follows a similar focus in following three struggling voice actresses who eventually come together as a radio show unit known as Earphones. Like Shirobako for anime production, Seiyu's Life believably explores the struggles and challenges faced by the voice actresses coming from different walks of life with Futaba trying to get a major role struggling as a rookie, Ichigo's heavy focus on acting costing her part-time jobs she works, and Rin juggling her voice acting while still being in junior high school. To add some additional believability to this approach, popular anime seiyuu do guest star in a number of the anime's episodes to interact with the members of Headphone on voice acting jobs that include Yui Horie, Masako Nozawa, and Rie Kugemiya. As this series is more grounded compared to many of Gonzo's past works, the presentation is a bit more restrained with donning the typical anime gal designs for our female leads while also attempting to make the designs of the seiyuu guest stars within the series look as close in appearance to their real-life counterparts as possible. Overall, this is easily one of Gonzo's more better works thanks to taking on an "industry insider" storytelling approach for the world of voice acting that is light-hearted, yet also believable in depicting the challenges of being part of such a line of work within the anime industry.
