This is the one show which I was most looking forward to in the Winter 2017 season. The original series was rated as the 8th best anime of 2016 in ANN's end of year viewer poll. Episodes one and two were OK but not great, which unnerved me a little. But episode three was better and proved that the people behind Konosuba 2 can make fun episodes when everything works out. Basically, Kazuma and Aqua venture into a dungeon in search of treasure because they are desperate for money. You might say that the humor in this episode rose to a higher level, one in which the show sort of made fun of MMORPGs and itself, rather than just the usual jokes which anybody would 'get' even if they didn't know much of anything about these things. This show is at it's best when it does this. Konosuba 2 actually has something of an ongoing plot--or maybe it would be more accurate to describe it as 'solving one problem only leads to another'. For example, the adventure in Keele's dungeon in episode three comes back to haunt the team in episode five. I like this; it seems indicative of some extra trouble being taken to compose a fun story, more effort, that is, than would be needed if the show had been episodic with little link between episodes (which is what the majority of anime seem to be). And even if you only watched one episode, you would probably sense that the quality here is superior to most. More talking and clever jokes of that sort than physical slapstick, perhaps.
