Early on, I got a good vibe about this show. it struck me as a simple but honest story about friendship and team spirit. If only it were a little funnier! Some pretty remarkably three-dimensional animation made me wonder if some conventional film clips had been carefully converted to animation. The show was cute, sweet--but again, pretty simplistic. The characters didn't flesh out much as the episode went along. Maiharu's personality seems to consist of nothing more than her wanting to learn how to ride a bike, and Tomoe's consists of wanting to help her do that. It seems unlikely that they will ever grow much. As I have said before, in order for me to care how a team fares, I have to care about the characters within it. And, I guess, the characters have to have fairly sophisticated personalities in order for me to suspend disbelief and think of them as real human beings rather than cartoon characters. As of yet, that hasn't really happened here, and I doubt that it will--or, if it takes place at a glacial pace, I don't have the patience to wait for it. And of course the jokes alone don't justify watching. The lesson on bike frames after the credits was interesting, though.
