Sometimes, from the moment when you first see the character designs and hear the tones of voice of the characters in an new anime, you can tell in a virtual blink of an eye what to expect. That was what happened to me in the opening scene of Urara Meirochou, and the message I got was that I was wasting my time here. The bubbly, air-headed dialogue, the goofy super optimistic personality of Chiya, the cute animals--all sent a signal that this would be a very unsophisticated and uninteresting show, and almost immediately I regretted choosing to watch it rather than something else. The characters seemed very stereotypical, too; they seemed to use prefabricated personalities rather than make any attempt to develop unique and interesting ones. Nor was the show very funny; in fact, I wonder if the use of the keyword 'comedy' is appropriate at all. I recall almost laughing once, and that was about it. The 'expose your belly' joke was overused, especially since it was barely funny even the first time. There is some lightweight fanservice and yuri innuendo. At one point I found myself pausing this show so that I could daydream about a completely different subject. This is not a bad show, just not a good one either. It is very pedestrian.
