Love Live Sunshine serves as the second "generation" of the Love Live School Idol Project franchise as a sort of spinoff-sequel as Chika and eight other girls try to form an idol group to save their school from closure. It largely follows the same premise, story beats, and character types from the first School Idol Project series, but frequently rubbing things in the viewer's face that the girls are trying to be like Muse from the original anime. The characters largely stick with whatever archetypes they start off with and any development they seemingly have largely feels superficial since the changes don't feel too significant and this is yet another anime existing as part of a multimedia franchise centered around the "school idol" concept used by Love Live. Fans of the prior anime may feel at home seeing Sunshine. But given my indifference of many anime that exist to glorify the pop idol industry, I'm certainly not on the bandwagon for this one.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3219#628]
(Most of one episode watched):

I had assumed that this anime would be a continuation of the adventures of the girls of the Muse school idol group from the two previous series, but it gradually dawned on me that that was not the case. Instead, this seems to be a spinoff and a parallel tale of how another school idol group got started. That sort of disappointed me, because I had gotten to know and to like the girls of Muse and would have preferred to have stuck with them. Furthermore, while the two previous seasons had managed to be fairly fun, the jokes here seemed very lame and I could not summon much interest in this show once I realized that it wasn't going to be what I had expected.
