Sort of Girls und Panzer at sea--except there has already been an anime of that type, namely Kantai Collection. For some reason--probably because it would make a silly anime--21st century Japanese girls need to learn skills like how to handle WWII era torpedoes. I think this show is taking place in the present day, because one of the ships seemed to have a modern design. I wondered if this would be one big joke about cute girls and cool firepower, without any actual violence (like Panzer), or if a war of some sort would break out, and the girls would be pressed into service. My first impression was that this show was obviously never supposed to make sense, and the jokes were very lame, so I would quit forthwith. But there's a twist near the end, when Akeno's ship, the Harukaze, comes under fire in what the girls interpret as a training exercise, but when they defend themselves they are declared 'mutineers'. WTF is going on? Will Moeka find herself ordered to sink her friend? The problem is, the show had been so carefree and unbelievable up to this point, and character development had gotten such a low priority, that I just can't believe that a truly gripping story could possibly come together. This twist was about the only interesting thing about the show, and no matter what happens, I don't think it can salvage it. I thought about watching one more episode, just to get an idea of what's going on and who's behind it, but ultimately didn't.
