(Half of one episode watched):

Another high school/martial arts academy show, eh? This will need some serious wit and novelty in order to be worth watching, not just the usual fanservice and fights-of-the-week. And it will certainly need more than fancy terms (like 'Lukifer') and stereotypical gimmick weapons. As I have said before, there are three ways a show can succeed: it can be funny, it can be cool, with snazzy music and awesome artwork, or it can be intriguing, that is, it can be telling an interesting story which I want to hear. But it quickly became pretty clear that Absolute Duo fell into the 'none of the above' category. There were no jokes (IIRC), the animation was unremarkable, the music during action scenes was distinctly ineffective (I noticed it because it wasn't doing it's job), and I felt nothing but boredom at the story that was unfolding. No effort seemed to be made to create likeable characters, instead the story just lurched forward. At least there didn't seem to be any tasteless fanservice. And the fighting itself was quite dull; were these students being forced into a mass fight-to-the-death? No, “all that fancy fighting and no one even got hurt” someone remarked. Half an episode was enough for me to conclude that I'd be missing nothing if I dropped Absolute Duo forthwith.
