In order to survive the eventual arrival of the "Dusk End," people of the western reaches of the "Land of Dusk" devoted their efforts to rediscover and recreate lost alchemic technologies. Those technologies were then gathered in the alchemy city known as "Central," where research was conducted on how to halt the advance of the twilight. Having learned the newest alchemic techniques in Central, young alchemist Logy requested a transfer to an understaffed town of Colseit on the frontier to make use of his abilities. There he meets Escha, an apprentice girl assigned to the Development Department. Together, the two make a promise to use their alchemic techniques to bring success to the Development Department.

Based on an RPG video game, Atelier, Escha, and Logy appears to be set up as a sort of slice-of-life series with elements of light drama and fantasy tossed into the mix. Most episodes of the series involve its titular characters taking on some of case in the majority of episodes as part of a research and development division of an organization of alchemists, with a later series arc devoted to the final few episodes of the series regarding some mysterious ruins that relevant characters in the series are seeking out. The series offers some fleshing out of some of its characters, though they are largely defined by whatever character types they have personality-wise. Plus, I get the sense fans of the game franchise may get more enjoyment out of this as characters and events from prior installments of it are referenced or make cameo roles and considering I have yet to play any installment of this franchise, that is likely to greatly limit my interest and accessibility to this series thus I'd probably only recommend this to fans of said games.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2901#628]
(One episode watched):

Well, this is looking to be an extremely laid-back anime about alchemy being used to fix relatively minor problems--like a broken part in a windmill. Maybe romance between the two main characters will develop. But there doesn't seem to be any serious source of danger or conflict, not much effort was made at comedy, and I have little interest in alchemy, so I am left wondering just what I am supposed to watch this show for. For me, it doesn't do anything wrong but doesn't do anything right, either.
