Disowned by his father, Jugo Yama has run away from home to the island of Nanae. He begins to live by himself, only to discover his room is haunted by the ghost of Nanana Ryugajo. She was murdered ten years ago, and her killer must be found before she can rest in peace. Before her death, Nanana collected things from all over the world and hid them throughout the island. Using the mysterious powers of these hidden items, they should be able to find the culprit. As Jugo begins his hunt for her collection, however, he discovers he's not the only person searching.

On paper, the premise of Nanana's Buried Treasure seems like a fun one with high schoolers venturing complicated traps to get their hands on the treasures of the titular dead heroine of the series. The treasure hunting made for the engaging element of the series as Jugo and others either work together or are rivals in overcoming elaborate traps and each other to get their hands on one of Nanana's treasures. Sadly, the treasure hunting makes for the only engaging element to the series as Nanana's Buried Treasure still relishes in the typical character types and comedic antics of otaku-pandering titles that include a "trap" character dressed as a maid, Nanana conveniently being a NEET thanks to her unique situation, the smart-ass glasses guy, and a yandere crushing on him. Adding to the issues is the fact that the series ends inconclusively as all of Nanana's treasures still have to be found and an enemy character established in later episodes is still at large. While the treasure hunting story element to this series was somewhat enjoyable for me, the typical pandering to otaku audiences with its humor and characters makes this mostly forgettable fare.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2893#628]
(One episode watched):

Eh, I didn't really care what the solution to Nanana's murder would be after watching episode one. Maybe that's because she is having such a good time living as a ghost that she hardly seems to care that she was killed. It's as if she's better off dead than she was alive, which is hardly tragic or moving. If she doesn't even care who killed her herself, why should I? Juugo's only motivation seems to be to get rid of the ghost who he has to share his room with; he doesn't have much personality either. So, I was left distinctly unintrigued by the premise behind this show.
