Encouragement of Climb's mostly a light-hearted slice-of-life title focused on a group of girls experiencing mountain climbing. Unlike most "slice of life gal pal" titles, this series does seriously explore aspects to its mountain climbing gimmick and the interest all the girls have in it instead of being a backdrop for pandering to the audience with character quirks. Still, the rather short run time had me caring little for the characters and the mountain climbing premise seems like the type that may appeal to a niche audience since it doesn't pander too heavily. I suppose your mileage may vary with this title.

Well, dammit, here's a show which manages to do in three or five minutes what many this season can't do in 23: instill it's characters with distinguishable, likeable personalities. I was surprised at the way this short was able to pique my interest with so little time to work with. Basically, it must have known what really mattered and didn't waste any of it's precious airtime. As absurd as the premise seemed at first, it is explained in a manner which just might really happen. A couple decent jokes helped out, too. I quickly decided to watch this. This is basically a silly show about several girls who take up mountain climbing (more like 'hiking' since Japan doesn't have any Mount Everest sort of slopes). We learn some interesting things about climbing techniques and equipment. YnS is half a decent comedy and half a primer on how to climb mountains. I don't know if any short anime deserves a Rent rating, but if the same quality as we see here were to be found in a full length series, then that one certainly would.
