Honoo no Tenkousei

Some shows have "grabber" titles which are so nonsensical that you cannot resist being curious; such would be Blazing Transfer Student. I'd heard of ths one long ago but only now has a fansub appeared. BTS had me giggling immediately. It's clear from the OP sequence that a transfer student is being portrayed as a superhero; seeing the Gainax logo among the credits was encouraging, also. A line from the OP song:

With a trail of red fire behind him/
Expelling heat, here he comes!

This is a school where the most mundane matters (like tardiness) are taken way too seriously. It's a cross between a boxing anime a school romance, and a comedy, hamming it up to the max. I wonder if this might have been the grandfather of the numerous series in which cutting edge martial arts are employed routinely at school. Such a show probably doesn't seem all that unusual nowadays, but the way it's handled here is funny--ridiculous-funny, to be exact. Comedy definitely hs priority over action, as the action is so absurd that it becomes a joke in itself. Main character Takizawa Noboru is a newcomer, of course, so like the audience he's surprised by what he sees (but adapts quickly). Blazing Transfer Student wasn't 100% hilarious like I'd hoped, but the humor was definitely above average.
