I am reviewing this episode as an individual episode of the Tenchi Muyo OAVs which were made between 1992 and 1995. Reviewing on that assumption, this OAV gives you some laughs and a sense of things to come with the Tenchi Muyo cast. The presence of Washu now in the Masaki household makes for some great laughs as she has her fun with some of the characters, especially with her infamous 'nurse' scene with Tenchi. The usual Ryoko and Ayeka rivalry is found in this episode, especially with how they try using cliched character types found in shoujo manga to try winning Tenchi's affections. Comedy isn't all you will expect from this OAV. There are some scenes of plot development that you will see such as another dreary dream of foresight from Sasami and Ayeka hoping to find a place for a gift given to her by Tenchi from Tsunami. Overall, The Night Before the Carnival will give you both a taste of comedy from the antics of the girls of the Masaki household and more things to expect in later episodes of the series.
