More or less, this anime adaptation of Capcom's popular demon action game franchise exists mostly exists to satisfy fans of the video games since it doesn't offer much to hook in new fans. The series sets up a series of unrelated episodic plots involving Dante taking on different cases to slay demons that eventually builds up to a larger threat. However to my understanding, this plot is largely exclusive to this anime and doesn't effect things within the video games. The series has its occasional moments of humor coming from the banter between Dante and other characters, but the series overall plot is otherwise forgettable and mostly exists just to attract Devil May Cry fans. Overall, just another forgettable TV anime that exists just to promote its video game source material.

He's half-human and half-demon. He is Dante and he has quite the taste for strawberry sundaes. Did I mention that he also possesses a power that rivals any demon? Devil May Cry is an adaptation to the video game aptly named the same. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to play any of the DMC series but if it was based off of this short 12 episode series, I might have reconsidered. Dante is a "special" private investigator who only has one motive which is exterminate demons. His father is mostly the reason for his powers. Apparently, he was one of the 4 great devils that was also the greatest swordsman in the demon world. Once he made it to the human world, he decided not to take arms with humans but ended up knocking up a human woman and eventually she bore Dante. On a side note, the character Dante was supposed to be a slight spinoff of Dante Alighieri's work, "The Devine Comedy". If you are familiar with that work (and of the latest video game) you may have seen the game, Dante's Inferno, which is also based off of Alighieri's work. From what I have read somewhere, the anime was show similarities to the Devine Comedy. Let me tell you something...I have The Devine Comedy and there is no comparison to the anime. The only thing that the anime and the 'Comedy was the name, Dante.

Storywise, it's very good. You have Dante, a charismatic yet lazy guy who takes jobs that pay a lot and yet he somehow loses it all to pizza and strawberry sundaes. I don't get it at all, but it still was interesting. Add a precocious little girl, a heavy gun toting woman, another female demon hunter who has a slick sense of fashion, and a desperate manager trying to make Dante pay off his enormous debt and you get a somewhat fast-paced and action packed series. It has enough comedy so it wouldn't be too dreary but not to much that it would be just that. The characters are modeled nicely and the animation can get pretty wild. This could be a considered a hidden gem if the game never come to fruition. Even so, it stands out on it's own like a sore thumb. The only downside (like some other short series) is the fact that this could have easily been at least a 23 episode series. Had it not been for certain aspects of the anime, it could have easily been a heavy favorite for my top 5. It is in my top 10, but should deserve a spot had it not been this short. It only took me a few hours to watch the entire series without stopping. That (to me) is a sign of a very good anime. I leave it at a high rent, low buy. I am thinking about getting the actual series since it's damn near dirt cheap online. If you like a lot of action and demon slaying, give Devil May Cry a chance.

Yeah, i haven't bought it yet, but when it comes out i will...I was hung over from too much Mecha, when this came into my life...Devil May Cry is your typical halfbreed fights evil story, but hey i liked it. I like super powerful main characters and side kicks fighting evil...Especially when the main character carries a massive sword...Devil May Cry is a must own...I do think 12 episodes was too short...
