In case anyone cares, I am currently planning on watching 7 Spring 2015 shows to their conclusions. However, 2 are sequels/continuations of previous season shows.

Is it just a coincidence that over the past couple of seasons there have been distinctly few really good anime? Or has the industry gone into a genuine slump? Or am I just imagining things?

I try to keep mine short, mainly for reasons of personal space. The room I keep my collection in is rather small and can't house too much contents all at once. So if something doesn't grab my interest after I get through a title, then I sell or trade it off.

I've got a ton of stuff that Jan-chan set me, but for some reason I have always preferred to watch whatever was currently running in Japan. Also, it's hard to get this stuff to play on my DVD player, and I prefer watching it that way rather than on my computer. Jan-chan kept sending me boxes of stuff and I should have made clear that I couldn't keep up. I regret the way I handled the matter.

I guess there was a surge of interest in anime around the year 2000 or so, and it was highly fashionable, but the surge has calmed down today and only those who truly find anime intriguing are still watching and reviewing it.

Also in 2000 a site where you could like, post reviews was novel. These days eh, it's expected. Plus the standard fannish venues these days can accommodate reviews if that's your thing.

THIS site was originally created specifically because I wanted a place where fansubs could be reviewed. Anime-On-DVD was big at the time, but was exclusively focused on US releases. Fansubs were rather harder to come by at the time... filesharing of them hadn't happened yet-- fansubs were still done by VHS tapes or VCDs... or I have some CDs with fansubbed Sailor Moon in Real Movie format. =D

So they were pretty hard to come by and often there was no info about them online. These days, streaming is easy to come by, torrents from places like nyaa.se are also super easy. And descriptions of new shows are up almost before they're aired. The time between Japanese fandom learning something and that reaching English-language fandom is really short these days. All this leads to less immediate need for this kind of site.

And finally, well, when I was first launching the site I was still active in a bunch of anime fandom communities, and I was able to boot strap it by passing word around in them. I haven't been active in any in 10 years now though so even that meager driver disappeared. (I mean, I'm just now getting around to watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica (TV) =D)

I tried to get a new one, but it was such a hassle that I finally decided to just try to find one that was used but otherwise identical to my old one so that I wouldn't have to learn a whole new set of remote controller button pushing sequences. This turned out to cost only $30 or so, half of it postage. I actually ordered two, just in case.

Chrome, Firefox, Safari. At the airbnb we're staying at random stuff doesn't load, but that's true on literally every site on the 'net, because it's on crappy AT&T DSL.

Linode is wanting to update my old Xen instances to KVM, so I'm going to let them do that now. (Probably 20 minutes down time for this.) When that completes I'm going to have them move the VMs to a different datacenter, which will mean new IPs and new routing, which, if this is indeed a routing issue, and it sure looks like, one, may resolve the problem.

Well, except for One Punch Man, I think Fall 2015 was yet another pretty mediocre season for anime. In the end I only watched four shows (not counting shorts) to their conclusion: One Punch Man, Ace of the Diamond (which has been running for something like two years now), The Perfect Insider (which was far from perfect), and YuruYuri San Hai (or, more accurately, I will watch this one to the end when the fansubs finally arrive).

The groupings are in the code so I have to edit a file, but that's easy, so if you want any other Keywords moved around, just say.

Thanks for the fix. The only other modification I can think of is that we have we have three 'theme' keywords--Maid Theme, Idol Theme and Otaku Theme. Otaku is in 'Story Elements and Locations' while the other two are in 'Keywords'. I would think that all three ought to be in the same category, but I'm not sure which is most appropriate.

Well, this season didn't turn out to be as bad as I had initially feared. I'm watching twelve different shows (four of them shorts).

@Stretch -- I'm going to have to remember to read your review of Macross Delta once the show is over. After that, you should watch the original Macross if you can (remembering that the cell animation will look dated).

Unlike Gundam, Macross mostly contains a linear timeline. The exceptions being Do You Remember Love and Macross II.

Quick question, Becca. Is it possible to use otherwise web design coding for setting up the site pages on here besides whatever is set up for Mikomi?

I'm not totally sure I follow? If you mean "Is there a way for me to upload random HTML + JS web pages that aren't displayed via the wiki layout engine" then no. I mean, I can, obviously, but there's no facility in the site for others to do so.

I meant it is possible to use any coding like HTML, CSS and Javascript for page layout on this site besides whatever is supported for Mikomi's normal layout support?

There's a limited subset of HTML but no JS nor CSS due to the difficulty in sanitizing that.

(The very bottom has additional tags supported. As HTML has changed a lot since 1999, if there's a tag you'd like I'd be happy to add it to the whitelist.)

Was only curious. I know this site's been around since the 90s and conventions for web design coding have changed significantly since then. Been taking web design courses lately and learning more about the coding styles had me curious of what this site supports.

Yeah, my frontend skills are super super rusty, to the point I'd have to nearly start from scratch if I were to modernize the site.

A theme engine is used for layout and I could push those up somewhere if you wanted to give a go, but there's no getting past the fact that the way it works is positively ancient.

The shortcut coding set up for Wikipedia and such doesn't appear to be working, Rebecca. It gets rendered as an unknown schema by this site. I winded up changing the Gundam franchise Wikipedia link into a URL one as a result.

↗Wikipedia links should be working again. I was fetching a list of wiki prefixes daily from a site that apparently had a blip. As that list hasn't changed in like 10 years, I've disabled the fetch so it won't fail that way again.

For years I've been using Tokyo Tokoshan as my main source of fansub downloads, but recently my favorite source, Deadfish, stopped placing it's work there. I finally went searching and found another website, Anime Tosho Beta, which has everything I want--and more. It seems to carry both Deadfish and Baked Fish, and some minor lines as well. I need mp4 fansubs, because I have a problem with my software which keeps me from converting MKV fansubs into DVD mode. I'm downloading a ton of episodes, some first episodes of Fall 2016 stuff, and some episodes that I was missing from anime of previous seasons, For example, I found the remainder of Sakamoto desu there.

Whereas during the Summer season I only watched three series to their conclusions, during the Fall one there's looking to be something like twenty ones worth watching. I may have to save some for another mediocre season in the future, because the season is already hallway over and I'm barely beyond week two.

Happy New Year! On ANN's poll of the best anime of 2016, I voted for Konosuba, which came in 8th, Grimgar, which came in 16th, and planetarian and Sekkou Boys, which were way, way down the list. I forget what my fifth choice was.

Haven't said this in a while, but this may be one of the more underwhelming anime seasons in terms of offerings that I've come across in a while. Have a few titles of interest, but not as large as what has gotten my attention from prior seasons in the past 3-4 years.
