Ironically all I did was disable the "page speed" extension. I haven't actually changed that config for like two years, but, eh… maybe an update to that module was causing issues.

It doesn't seem to have fixed all the problems (I got an 'Oops' after making changes), but this is much better than before. Previously I was so frustrated that I was tempted to give up trying to make entries here.

I still get 'This page cannot be displayed' or 'Oops!' every now and then, but things are working fairly well. If I get one of those messages, I find that immediately trying to log on again always fails, but if I wait a few minutes it should succeed. In general, I can conduct several operations on Mikomi before I get an 'Oops', whereas previously they came so soon that I couldn't get much of anything done.

One last thing to try to stabilize your situation: I'm upgrading the Perl (which'd fallen out of support anyway) and all of the packages it uses.

Is it just me, or is Winter 2015 a pretty mediocre season for anime? The only original series I am still watching is Assassination Classroom--all the others are sequels/continuations of older series, like Jojo, Shirobako, Ace of Diamond, Parasyte, Garo, etc.

@Stretch: Not so far as I can tell. I can create a new account and login and everything works. I would note that to set a username (as they did) they had to enter an email on the create screen, get the password from email, then login to the site and edit their profile. So I don't think its a technical glitch. This whole flow is a little awkward but it doesn't seem to be broken.

Maybe there just aren't all that many new reviewers nowadays. It seems that Mikomi has gone from a website where lots of people made short comments about anime to one where only two of us do almost all of the reviewing. I hope people aren't thinking 'I must write long, professional quality reviews to be welcome here'.

Oh no doubt, active connections used to be 5-10 times higher most of the time. Natural lifecycle I think. The sites design is... let's say "old fashioned" at best. The software is sometimes a little creeky in how things work and what you can do.

All that combined with no effort to market it to new folks...

I try to keep mine short, mainly for reasons of personal space. The room I keep my collection in is rather small and can't house too much contents all at once. So if something doesn't grab my interest after I get through a title, then I sell or trade it off.

Also, it's hard to get this stuff to play on my DVD player, and I prefer watching it that way rather than on my computer. THIS site was originally created specifically because I wanted a place where fansubs could be reviewed. Anime-On-DVD was big at the time, but was exclusively focused on US releases. Fansubs were rather harder to come by at the time... filesharing of them hadn't happened yet-- fansubs were still done by VHS tapes or VCDs... or I have some CDs with fansubbed Sailor Moon in Real Movie format. =D

So they were pretty hard to come by and often there was no info about them online. These days, streaming is easy to come by, torrents from places like nyaa.se are also super easy. And descriptions of new shows are up almost before they're aired. The time between Japanese fandom learning something and that reaching English-language fandom is really short these days. All this leads to less immediate need for this kind of site.

And finally, well, when I was first launching the site I was still active in a bunch of anime fandom communities, and I was able to boot strap it by passing word around in them. I haven't been active in any in 10 years now though so even that meager driver disappeared. (I mean, I'm just now getting around to watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica (TV) =D)

It's typically no trouble at all, especially after the VM host switch. That seems to have ironed out all the pain there. o/ So I can't see it going away... it'll just keep on sitting here getting older. ;)

VM as in virtual machine, I'm guessing? Which means you are emulating whatever's been used to keep this site going over the past decade or so?

My MPEG4 capable DVD player died near the end of an episode of Prison School and I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive. That's why I haven't been making many posts lately (if anyone cares).

I tried to get a new one, but it was such a hassle that I finally decided to just try to find one that was used but otherwise identical to my old one so that I wouldn't have to learn a whole new set of remote controller button pushing sequences. This turned out to cost only $30 or so, half of it postage. I actually ordered two, just in case.

Late in a season it's hard to think of new things about a show that haven't already occurred to you before. Often times I get the same impression from the latest episode as I already have numerous times from earlier ones.

For me, I have maybe one or two titles that consistently maintained my interest throughout the season, while the remainder I choose to stick with didn't meet whatever expectations I had of them early in their run. Been a recurring trends for years since I started actively watching more recent titles.

Let me ask a question: what do you use for browsers, Stretch and Becca? The problems I've been having to get on here are in Firefox and Internet Explorer. Chrome doesn't seem to have issues loading pages, though image loading is still a problem.

Chrome, Firefox, Safari. At the airbnb we're staying at random stuff doesn't load, but that's true on literally every site on the 'net, because it's on crappy AT&T DSL.

At work, on commercial Comcast, everything loads every time.

Linode is wanting to update my old Xen instances to KVM, so I'm going to let them do that now. (Probably 20 minutes down time for this.) When that completes I'm going to have them move the VMs to a different datacenter, which will mean new IPs and new routing, which, if this is indeed a routing issue, and it sure looks like, one, may resolve the problem.

The data center move will be longer down time due to DNS propagation. It shouldn't be more than a few hours, but it could be as long as a day or so.

Ok, so there was an outbound firewall rule that, when packets were lost was sometimes over active and started just dropping all the packets.

I have watched 21 new Fall shows, and about one third were dropped after one episode and I would guess about another third will be dropped before they reach their final episodes and the final third are good enough for me to watch to the end. That's actually not bad, since early on I wondered if there would be any good shows this season!

Well, except for One Punch Man, I think Fall 2015 was yet another pretty mediocre season for anime. In the end I only watched four shows (not counting shorts) to their conclusion: One Punch Man, Ace of the Diamond (which has been running for something like two years now), The Perfect Insider (which was far from perfect), and YuruYuri San Hai (or, more accurately, I will watch this one to the end when the fansubs finally arrive).

Winter 2016 seems like a somewhat more interesting season to me than Fall 2015 was. For one thing, not quite as many shows were written off after just one episode.
