It's been suggested that we add a shout box* to the right hand side. Probably the stats and most reviewed would come off at that time too.

* A "shout box" is a little window with short one-two line messages from visitors that can be used in-line (without page reloading) from any page.

Stats and current favorites should stay. I don't care for anything else over on the right hand side so this shout box is fine by me.

I don't understand it too well though. Are you saying we can talk like normal, as to say like a "instant forum post" type situation that doesn't require the wait time?

Are you using a 3rd-party app? I noticed at work last night that there appeared to be some sort of "chat with site admin" thing and at him, I see I'm blocking something from "hab.la" (I have script blocker running on Firefox).

What's the difference between a shout box and a chat box? What would be an example of a situation in which a shout box is needed?

@Stretch ... chat box or shout box .. same difference. It might look like something from this web site as it appears on the left hand side. It would permit real time 'chats' between guests to the web site. (and I think the Stats box should stay.)

Yeah, I like Jan-chan's link example. Does that mean we reviewers can't use it since its for the guests?

No, everyone gets to use it ... it is a casual use item that does not require that you login/logon to the site, and we might even make an additional exception to permit you to use it too ....... (tee heee!!!)

It would permit any casual visitors to chat with any 'sempais' who are currently connected to the site.

Ha..Ha.. That's not funny Jan-chan.

Anyway, this will "undeniably" allow everyone to "voice their opinions"! My efforts are finally able to bear fruit at last. Now we can get some "serious" participation from those casual visitors.

Only downfall - now they "really" won't need to become reviewers since they can chat with no commitment to this site (better have a filter for profanity)! Good or bad, this "shout box" can become a "double edged sword". If we want more reviewers, then we should seriously think more about this option before pursuing it.

That is my opinion...

Yup, if you let that through then you get a little chat window, where anything you say to it gets routed to my instant messaging client. I mentioned it in Experimental new feature.

I find filters don't actually save you from profanity and simultaneously cause problems. If people cursing in the shout box really becomes a problem then I'll just promote some of you to be moderators. =)

Personally, I think getting people to participate more in the site will ultimately lead to more reviewers. Saying something off in the side box isn't exactly the same thing as writing a review. I think it's unlikely we'll find people putting their opinions of series there.

So I know I'm late asking this. But do you still have a Shout Box?
