Silent Mobius - 21: Dark Side of the MOON

Title:Silent Mobius
Episode:21: Dark Side of the MOON
Synopsis
Dark Side of the MOON / 月の生まれた夜 = Tsuki no Umareta Yoru (The Night when the Moon was Reborn)

During the six months following the death of Roy Device there have been no serious Lucifer Hawk incidents and the importance of AMP has been drastically downgraded. After being missing for all this time, Katsumi finally shows up again. However, based on some disturbing comments made by Isozaki, Kiddy is uncertain as to whether she can be trusted anymore.

Stretch:
I, too, wonder what Isozaki meant with cryptic lines like "The moment she misdirects her anger, Katsumi may make an irreparable choice" and "acceptance that she belongs to Nemesis". The thought occured to me that Katsumi seemed to be doing too well, being all cheerful and full of smiles. Why are the Hawks sending out pathetic comrades like the one that "probably got zapped when it touched the barrier" (an amusing line, which implies that some Hawks are no smarter than insects which fly into one of those bug zapping devices)? This episode contained a number of laughs, including "Oh well, that China girl will get hers soon enough". A red moon seems to be considered an ominous portent of danger in Japan, just like in Night Wizard. Why didn't anybody notice that the moon had turned red during the eclipse? Finally, say it ain't so, Kiddy!

Devil Doll:
Remember episode 5 "Let's have a party" and how relaxed the mood was back then? Well, this one will again feature an AMP party... The final arc has begun. This quiet episode is devoted to character interaction and provides a surprising new challenge for the AMP, not wasting a lot of time with battle sequences (which we will get enough from here on, much like in Koukaku Kidoutai STAND ALONE COMPLEX, only that this battle here will be even more like a game of chess), another nice twist at the end and a much better narration style than the more one-dimensional manga content had. (This episode is a complete rewrite made of ideas taken from manga volumes 7-9; throughout the story the order of events is different between anime and manga but these differences become important now as there are no side stories any more.)

Apparently Gigelf noticed the red moon back in episode 1. But he was a mage. Who would be able to notice it now? The only normal AMP members to do so might be Nami or Lum Cheng, and they're both still young and inexperienced. Rally and Mana, for example, might both be aware of it as their comments show. (And if there IS anyone to make cryptic remarks about Katsumi, it must be Mana - you'll understand this soon enough. Didn't she already show a bewildering behavior not too long ago?)

The incompetence of LH3 is a theme throughout this series - even the other police departments used it to counter Rally's requests for more resources. But to think that it would become so crucial in this episode must have been a nice surprise. Once again this episode showed that you never know what the opponent actually has in mind - they always seem to be one step ahead of the AMP. Whose next weak spot has been located already...
