Episode:19: Back of a Coin
Synopsis
Episode 19: Back of a Coin / さすらいの果て = Sasurai no Hate = The End of the Wanderings

Katsumi is troubled by Roy's vow that if she ever becomes possessed by her Lucifer Hawk side, he will kill both her and himself. Lum Cheng uses an unusual tactic to cheer her up. Later, Ganossa attempts to use Katsumi and Roy's very real love for each other to his advantage.

Stretch:
Things heat up. I liked Ganossa's tactic of taking Katsumi and Roy hostage to manipulate them, with the twist that he only wants the "strong" Katsumi--one dominated by hatred, apparently, since he dismisses love as a useless emotion. And Ganossa is actually a human? No doubt the explanation of this surprising revelation will tie in neatly with the remainder of the plot. When you think about it, it's kind of foolhardy to let AMP members roam about individually, since there is only a handful of them, two have already been attacked while alone, and they are earth's last best hope to defeat the Hawks.

I came across an interesting analysis of this manga/anime series by noted anime author Fred Patten:
"Silent Mobius is a clever presentation of fantasy in sci-fi guise, pitting a futuristic, high-tech witches' coven against Lovecraftian monsters"

Devil Doll:
Episode 19:
Yes, things are "heating up" (remember that wording at the end of episode 20 ;-). And yes, Ganossa is human. The manga (Möbius Klein, the episode 14 flashback stuff) says:

"Flecks: Th-this guy is Ganossa Maximillian. He was Gigelf's assistant long ago...

Gigelf: That's an old story. Besides, now he's just a man who sold his soul to the devil!!" (Flecks is Gigelf's assistant during episode 14.)

Lovecraft as comparison may not be that good, as the LH are neither "from ancient times" nor are they god-like creatures that everyone would fear (most notably not the AMP who all are superhumans, and some of them even related to the LH themselves; plus remember the "dream" episode 13 where civilians formed groups to fight the Category IV LH, and remember that Ganossa is human and obviously a major player in the game and Rally knows him quite well). The Silent Möbius Movies might get closer to that Lovecraft "mood", with Katsumi being much less heroic.

As for the 30 seconds previews at the end of each episode, beware:
Preview for episode 20: slightly spoilerish
