Title:Binbou Shimai Monogatari
Episode:10: A Day of Colds, Promises and Mother
Synopsis
Kyou has a cold and a fever, and Asu is nursing her. Asu herself feels tired and has no appetite, but she feels her sister's condition is more important right now. A few days later, Kyou can go back to work and tries to do her best as to gain back the sick days. But when Kyou finally returns from her newspaper run, there's no light in the sister's room - and she finds Asu collapsed at the ground!
Panicking, Kyou tries to carry Asu to the hospital, but the owner convinces her to call the ambulance instead. Kyou becomes even more worried now, as she remembers the days when her mother died in the hospital. How could she fail to notice that Asu was sick as well? Kyou feels unable to keep the promise she had given her mother back then - the promise to protect her younger sister.
Asu has to stay in the hospital for now. Kyou feels lonely at home, and she fails in doing the simplest household chores - all those things Asu was so good at, like folding clothes or washing dishes - she even cuts her fingers while peeling apples for her sister. At school she can hardly focus on anything, remembering her promise over and over again.
When Kyou arrives in the hospital after school, she hears a lot of voices from inside Asu's room: the owner, the friendly neighbor woman, one woman from the shopping district, and several classmates (including Ginko) are there to visit Asu - Ichinokura-san has even brought his guitar along to play for the girl. Kyou feels even more worthless and doesn't dare to open the door... but Asu is actually waiting for her and becomes worried.
On her way home Kyou walks along a dandelion field. She remembers how she used to pick dandelions whenever she visited her mother in the hospital - and she remembers the day when her mother's sickroom was empty. But then she remembers how her mother smiled every time when Kyou came for a visit - and finally she understand why she smiled...

The final episode is an emotional highlight of this series, just like the first one - and in many respects answering questions that have been posed back then. All the side characters have one more appearance, and the tears are flowing...
