Hey there, Otaku! I'm a 19 fem who likes to pretend her opinion counts and hates it when people say crap like:
a) "I don't care if the plot sucked, it was the best movie cause it looked (insert fo-trendy slang here)." (Like most things in life, just because it looks good doesn't mean it is and there's no excuse for keeping your standards otherwise)
b) "You have to love this movie because it's classic/cult favorite/pioneering in its genre." (Bull, you don't have to like anything just because a legion of people say you should)
c) "I thought it sucked because it was more mature/realistic/explicit than cartoons should be." (About 90% of anime that makes it to America is not intended for children. In Japan, Anime is considered to be a cheap and expressive medium of storytelling and is as much for adults as it is for kids.)
d) "If it's not Dragonball/Sailormoon/Pokemon/Digimon/Card Captors then I don't want to know about it!" (There are so many better titles out there than the ones I listed and people shouldn't cling to these security blanket titles blindly)
If you fit into any of the above groupings, you'll despise my reviews (Hey that's okay in it's own right) so you might just want to ignore me all together. In addition to my reviews I include a grading scale which is not unlike the ones you were familiar with in school.
A=Excellent/Instant Classic
B=Above average/Worth Seeing
C=Average/Take-it-or-leave-it title
D=Below Average/Not much to see here
F=Failure/Don't waste your time or money
If you actually bother to read my profile along with my reviews, do me a favor and write me an e-mail telling me what you think of my reviews. I like praise (don't we all?) but I like criticism too, it doesn't really matter how good I think my evaluations are if everyone thinks they're horrible. So let me know, but if you're just nasty and mean, I probably won't read more than a line of your letter let alone respond...fair warning.
