Romance: (Genre) Self-explanatory. If the title has a romance story to it, it would qualify.
Shoujo: (Target Group) (↗shoujo (少女) = "young lady", "virgin", "maiden"; opposite of "Shounen") A style of artwork and story created for girls (usually of age 10 to 18). Characterized by plots that focus on emotion and relationships, and art that tends toward the florid, with lanky characters and rather effeminate (but always attractive) men. Mostly popular with teenagers in Japan, most shoujo-style work has not spread widely, but it does occasionally gain recognition outside Japan (some examples are Revolutionary Girl Utena and X). The most common uses are "shoujo manga", literally meaning "girls' comics", and "shoujo anime" meaning "girls' animation." Also romanized as "shojo" (actually a different word "処女" in Japanese). Kinomoto Sakura is a bright, cheerful, cute little 4th grade girl. She lives with her 17-year old brother and her widowed father in a nice home in Japan. One day, she hears strange noises coming from the basement of her home. Cautiously investigating the source amongst the rows of book shelves, she discovers it is coming from a glowing old book called "The Clow". Unlocking the book, Sakura discovers that it is in fact a storage box for a deck of odd cards. While attempting to read the English word "Windy" on the front of the top card, she accidently activates the magic card, causing the entire deck to be scattered and disappear all over Japan. The only card that survives is the "Windy" card. |

It's about Shiratori/Ootori Nagisa, a martial artist/idol singer. Just for laughs she decides she wants to go to a public junior high school. In order to remain incognito she hacks off her pink hair, dresses in a boy's uniform and assumes a false last name. She joins a gang at school and falls in love with a high school boy (Nosaka Akira) who is a martial artist himself. Nagisa is a very cheerful character, and very handy in a fight. Between her boyfriend, her career and her dad's dojo she has way too much to do; she usually sleeps through class, unless the class is rioting or ninjas come to the school to attack one of her classmates or robbers attack the school and hold the class hostage or she is being harassed by a music instructor with a crush on her who thinks Nagisa is a female impersonator... |

Tooru Honda is a 16-year old girl living in a tent in the nearby mountain woods. Her father died when she was very young and her mother had just recently died in a car accident. Not wanting to put her grandfather (on her father's side) out while his house is being renovated, she told him she would stay with friends so no one knows she's living in a tent. In the meantime, she goes to school and works her part-time job on a cleaning crew so that she can pay her high school tuition (in Japan, high school is like college in the US). |
