The End of the Edo Era was also the end of the Age of the Samurai. The arrival of the Westerners with their new ways and weapons was generating turmoil and chaos throughout Japan. Akuma, born from dead souls forcefully recalled to the living world, by their grieving loved ones, are turned into the weapons of the Millennium Earl, hence 'akuma'. Since childhood, Allen Walker has been cursed with an anti-Akuma weapon on his left arm and an eye that sees the former soul of the Akuma.
