MEMORIES |

A collection of shorts by Katsuhiro Otomo. The first, Magnetic Rose, is about a group of space salvagers who respond to a distress call and find a lavish space mansion. The second, Stink Bomb, is about a young man who takes an experimental cold pill, and becomes a living disaster as his body exudes an odious green cloud. The last is "Cannon Fodder," about a boy who lives out his life in a vaguely Orwellian world, fighting a distant, invisible, enemy. |

A beautiful therapist Chiba Atsuko and a genius scientist Tokita Kosaku work for a psycho-medical institute. They invent a headset called a 'DC-mini'. It is an epoch-making device that allows them to enter a patient’s dream and enables them to interact with the patient’s inner world in order to cure him. However, one day, a DC-mini device goes missing, and is perhaps stolen. Since then the dreams of those patients participating in the project are being attacked one by one, and something is going wrong. Chiba Atsuko begins to investigate the matter. When using a DC-mini, she becomes the Dream Detective Paprika, who can synchronize with other person’s dream to guide them through their trauma. She finds herself fighting against a dream terrorist who uses a DC-mini that is strong enough to destroy one’s personality. Who is the 'criminal', and what is he after? When the manipulated dream crosses with the reality, the story goes into inner world no one ever seen, and it comes to a surprising end.... |

Buy | Fujiwara Chiyoko was once a major movie star who dominated the Japanese cinema world. Thirty years ago, she abruptly disappeared from the screen and from public view. One of her greatest admirers, Tachibana Genya, a documentary filmmaker, has traveled to the isolated mountain lodge where she makes her home to interview her. He presents her with an old key that once meant everything to her, and as if that key had opened a door to her memories Chiyoko starts telling the story of her life, interweaving moments from her past and future and passing through the boundary between reality and the movies that had made up so much of her life, guiding the audience through a millennium of Japanese history. |
