This is a genre of anime which features mechanical fighting machines. Often these take the form of giant robots but this isn't the only form mecha can take. There are tons of examples of mecha titles considering the popularity of the series. Blue Gender, Shin Seiki Evangelion, Tenkuu no Escaflowne, and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 are all classic mecha titles.

A thousand years have passed since the disaster that devastated the planet Zi. Both the land and people have spent the time recovering from the damage. On the day that they refloat the Liger Zoid, four enemy dinosour Bio-Zoids appear and attack the village with the intent of taking control of towering generator, an ancient artifact which supports the fertility of the land and assures the success of the village. Ruuji tumbles into the cockpit of the Liger and succeeds in awaking it. The teenaged hero struggles to fight off the Bio-Zoids, when the village’s sacred sword is summoned and fuses with the Liger.
